P.V. Bobde (b. 6.1.1916) is a veritable scholar steeped in literature and philosophy. After obtaining his degree in Law, he joined the M.P. State Cooperative Bank and retired as Manager in 1976.
His first book At Thy Feet was published in 1965. Later its Marathi translation was published, followed by the Marathi translation of C. Rajagopalachari's Shri Ramakrishna Upanishad. Garland of Divine Flowers, an English prose translation of Saint Jnaneshwar's selected Marathi poems (Abhangas) and Jeevanpath Deepika in Marathi were then published. All his books from At Thy Feet to Jeevanpath Deepika have received high appreciation from the readers.
His latest work in English, a prose translation of Kekavali, a famous poem of Moropant, is expected to be published shortly.
The author is a wayfarer trudging along the way to Eternity in quest of the Truth Eternal, His outpourings are rich in spiritual fervour and express vividly an acute longing of a seeker pining for God's grace. The author's attitude of serene humility, sublime non-attach- ment and resignation to the Divine Will is transparent in every line. The highest compliment for the book is that, according to a number of eminent writers, it is reminiscent of Gurudev Tagore's Gitanjali.
The eternal riddle before man consists of three ques- tions (1) Whence have 1 come, (2) Who am I, and (3) Where am I going. Man has yet not been able to solve the riddle and there are hardly any prospects of his being able to do so. All minds with a philosophic bent are agitated by these questions and struggle to find solace. Shri P. V. Bobde has expressed his thoughts on this sub- ject which display a mind full of faith which alone can lead to peace of mind. The diction of his writing is expressive. I commend the sanctity of his thoughts and beauty of expression.
The present book is a collection of my articles many of which had appeared in the press a couple of years back. These have received high appreciation from the readers coupled with numerous requests to print them in a book form. The book is accordingly published by me and is being presented to the readers.
I am deeply indebted to Shri H. V. Pataskar, Gover- nor of Madhya Pradesh, for his acceding with pleasure to my request to go through the manuscript and write a Foreword to the book.
