Mr. Deba Prasad Basu was born in Calcutta in 1936 in a religious family. Form early childhood he used to write poems, stories, essays etc. as he grew up spiritual life also attracted him. After taking M. Sc. Tech. degree in 1 st class from Calcutta University he joined service and subsequently family life. During his service he has worked in different parts of India and travelled widely. During his service he concentrated more on writing technical papers and reports. But after retirement from service he has started writing articles on spiritual life, poems and books for children. Many of his articles were published in English and Bengali journals and magazines. He has authored several books, some of them are printed and under printing – As You Think So You Become, From Home to Hermitage, Eternal Truths, The Poetic Boy, Arghya (Bengali poetry book), The Best Guide in Life etc.
During the twentieth century there has been tremendous progress in science and technology which has opened up sources of comfortable living and luxurious life for mankind. Distances between the countries have reduced, means of communication have improved and people of the world have come very close to each other. However the basic instincts of human being are not changed. There is no control over the sensual pleasures which force men to behave like animals. There are innumerable greedy, selfish and atheist people all around. Political unrest and social disharmony are prevalent throughout the world. Threats of nuclear weapons and biological warfare loom large upon the world. Unless there is spiritual upliftment in mankind conflicts and warfares amongst them can wipe out the entire human race and other living beings from the face of earth. Only wisdom and spiritual enlightenment can help bringing in peace, harmony and social justice on earth. With this object I have tried to discuss the various subjects related to wisdom and perfection in life.
Although the articles are based mainly on the philosophy of the Vedanta and the Bhagavad Gita they also reflect the essences of all the religions of the world. Lin fact the reflections and thoughts discussed in these articles are common for all human beings irrespective of their religions and faiths. They have been written in the simplest way so that common people and even children can understand them. Some of the articles have been published in reputed journals.
