INTRODUCTION

Wise people say that it is the mind that lives and that a man's life should not be assessed by the number of years that he lives but by the thoughts, conceptions and ideas which his mind contributes for the welfare of the mankind.

"मन एव मनुष्यार्णा कारर्ण बन्ध मोक्षयोः"

"It is the mind of a man that is the cause of his bondage or liberation." By applying one's mind constructively one can not only elevate one's own self but can also uplift the society and the country that he lives in. Indeed the whole world can benefit from his ideas and conceptions. As is said:

परिवर्तिनि संसारे मृतः को या न जायते। स जातो येन जातेन याति वंशः समुन्नतिम् ।।

"In this changing world who that dies is not born again? But only that person can be said to have been really born by whose birth the society makes progress."

Shri Surya Prakash Mandelia lived a blazing life. Apart from being a businessman and industrialist of repute he was closely and actively connected with a wide spectrum of intellectual activities carried on by a number of societies, organisations and institutions as their President, Chairman or Director. The present book is a collection of articles etc. based on his speeches delivered at the meetings and functions organised by these bodies on different occasions and includes some of his published and unpublished original writings. Poems etc. The material has been selected, edited and compiled in the present form by Pt. Rameshwar Prasad Malaviya.

About a businessman it can be said that he "minds his own business" and his main concern is how to make more and more profits regardless of the propriety of the means employed or the principles and the values involved. While deeply connected with man-made fibres Shri Mandelia's own mental fibre was different.
