The Bihar Puravid Parishad, in keeping with its aims and objectives, is publishing the proceedings of two seminars on the theme Archaeology of Eastern India' and 'Art and Culture of Eastern India' held under its auspices on Feb. 15-17, 1989 and Feb. 15-17, 1990 respectively in single book form and has decided to present this book as a Felicitation Volume in honour of Dr. Bhagwati Sharan Verma, a well- reputed scholar and archaeologist. Dr. Verma, besides several learned papers, has to his credit his outstanding publication "Socio-Religious Economic and Literary Condition of Bihar (A.D. 319-1000)." The important excavations at Antichak have established the identity of ancient Vikramashila Mahavihara, which was so far a bone of contention about its exact location. His excavations at Sonpur, district Gaya and Chirand, district Saran have put Bihar on the pre-historic map of India. It has indeed added a new chapter.
Dr. Verma needs hardly any introduction to archaeologists and historians. The Parishad feels proud in presenting this volume to Dr. Bhagwati Sharan Verma, in appreciation of the commendable work done by him in the field of archaeology and history.
