The Sanskrit Academy considers it a great privilege and honour to bring out the reprint of the monograph titled "An Approach to Indian Art" by Sri K.Chandrasekharan. It was delivered as T.R.Venkatarama Sastri Birthday Endowment Lecture" under the auspices of the South Indian National Association, Madras on 7.4.1940. It was printed by Madras Law Journal Press in the same year.
Sri.K.Chandrasekharan being a connoisseur of fine arts, has brought out beautifully all the aspects of Indian Art and Aesthetics. He has appropriately quoted from the Bhagavad Gita, the Valmiki Ramayana and the Mahabharata, apart from some other classical works in Sanskrit. He has also quoted from the works of great literary figures like Rabindranath Tagore, Anand Coomaraswamy and Dr.Annie Besant. To any person interested in understanding the unique significance of Indian Art, this monograph will be of great use. It is genuinely hoped that the book will receive the welcome that it deserves.
