Arun Kumar Singh, Ph.D has been Professor and Head, University Department of Psychology, Patna University, Patna, Bihar. He has also served as the Director of the Institute of Psychological Research and Service, Patna University, Patna. A renowned figure in the field of Psychology, Prof. Singh has been a distinguished teacher, administrator and researcher. He has teaching and research experiences of more than 40 years and has widely contributed to several fields of Psychology including Psychometry and Psychoedumetry. He has developed more than sixteen psychological tests which are popularly used in the researches of Psychology and Education. For sometime, he has also served as Principal of Patna Training College, Patna University, Patna. He has also authored many popular textbooks in Psychology which have been included in the syllabi of the different universities.
Applied Psychometry is basically a textbook for measurement course in psychology and education. The book concentrates around psychological testing and assessment in a very human, creative and collaborative fashion. The book has been written and introduced into three parts. Part is entitled as Fundamental concepts of classroom assessment and evaluation and it contains nine chapters. Through these nine chapters, the reader will get a clear, comprehensive and scientific knowledge about evaluation, assessment and tools of assessment especially about psychological tests. Part II is entitled as Major domains of Psychometric assessment which contains chapters 10 through 19. Therefore, this part contains ten chapters and a lucid attempt has been made to cover fields like achievement testing, attitude testing, intelligence testing, personality testing as well as the measurement of interest, values and attitudes and measurement of creativity. Besides this, neuropsychological assessment has also been discussed in comprehensive way. The most significant aspect of this part is that it also explains the application of psychological testing in different fields. Such scientific explanation will provide in-depth knowledge about the practical aspects of psychological testing in different fields. Part III is entitled as Basic Statistical Concepts and it contains chapters 20 through 27. The author has made a genuine attempt to explain the various statistical tools often used in assessment and measurement. It will help those students who are planning to start research work in the area of measurement and psychological testing. Thanks to the members of academic community whose suggestions encouraged me to undertake this enterprise and conplete it with the belief that is will be not only be liked by them but they will also be able to expand their scientific knowledge in this field.
