There are three Vedángas viz. Srauta Sutra, grhyasútra and dharmasütra. Srautasütras describe the procedure of organizing Vedic rituals. Grhya sutras state the procedure of organizing domestic rituals. Dharmasūtras describe the duties of Varnas and asramas. There is a general impression that Dharmasutras deal with only religious matters. However, a deep study of Dharmasûtras reveal that they deal with many general ethical and social aspects of life of the society. For instance these laydown detailed account of food and advise to avoid statefood. These also advise not to take food from the enemies which is likely to be poisoned. These sutras give detailed gaidance for bath and drinking water. This is personal aspect of Dharmasutra teaching.
