Upamanyu Śivācārya was the first preceptor of this geneology, in whom spiritual knowledge and action are blended harmoniously. Bhimanātha Prabhu descended from Upamanyu Sivācārya and the former was known for his penance. Mahagurukāleśvara was Bhimanātha's son and he was well-versed in Sastras. Boppanātha was the son of Mahagurukaleśvara and he was deeply versed in Srauta and smarta literature. Boppanātha's son was Nākarājaprabhu and his son was Sangameśvara who had mastery over Indian philosophy in general and Virasaiva philosophy in particular.
