When we had invited submissions for The Punch Wh Magazine's first anthology of short stories in May 2019, the world was steady. There were no inklings of the imminent strange and dark times, no intimations of the solemn and sombre mood of the world in the wake of the outbreak of the coronavirus pandemic in less than a year. There was an overwhelming response to our call for submissions, with writers from several parts of the world, including the US, the UK, Canada, Spain and Russia, sending in their stories. After we whittled the list down to 18 stories, we had planned to bring out the anthology sometime in 2020, to begin the new decade on a new note.
