This is the second of the Animals for peace stories in which exciting aspects of the teachings of the Baha'i Faith on world peace are presented. The new addition to the series is brilliantly illustrated by Papa Nketsiah, who has had his drawings exhibited in Ghana, France and the United States.
In this story Jibola responds in a wonderful way to an insistent call for lessons on the elimination of war, sharing her love for the Promise of World Peace, the statement the Universal House of Justice wrote to the peoples of the world (1986). What the Baha'i Writings say about treating animals with kindness also help Jibola accept that things will never be the same. Even the unusual names she gives her rabbit, sun birds, parrots and kittens show children can easily grasp new ways of thinking about unity and peace. But Jibola's enthusiasm for lofty concepts stirs up a conflict involving parents, neighbours, teachers, students, "Pets for Peace", and a very thoughtful cobra in the battle of wills. She learns, in the most surprising way, that world peace cannot be achieved by magic, but a change of human behaviour, wise and considerate acts are necessary. The story affirms, in a delightful way, that children marvel at the triumph of spiritual qualities, the feel and spirit of the Baha'iteachings.
