Amanaska Yoga of the great Yogi Goraksanatha is a unique treatise. This Yogic practice which means, "bereft of mind" (a-manaska), deals with transcending the Samadhi state. Generally texts on Yoga are divided into four schools viz., Hatha, Mantra, Laya and Rajayoga. Although all these schools have a common goal of realization of Self or union with God, each school prescribes different means for achieving this. It is interesting to note in this context that Amanaska Yoga deals with a unique concept of transcending mind.
Goraksanatha is a pioneer in the ueld of Yoga. Many texts are ascribed to him. Many popular texts on Hathayoga have borrowed from Goraksanatha's works. Advayataraka Upanisad, one of the twenty 'Yoga Upanisads' is similar to Amanaska Yoga in its treatment of the subject matter.
Amanaska Yoga is a unique text in the sense that unlike other texts on Yoga, it abounds in the usage of many apt similes to drive home the philosophical concepts of Yoga and Vedanta.
