All India Oriental Conference is one of the most dynamic academic organisations of the orientalists engaged in the studies and researches in different branches of Indology related to language. literature and culture. It holds its sessions on alternative years at different places, mostly at the Universities and prominent Research Institutes in the country. I have been fortunate enough to have the honour of being elected as President of different Sections in its many Sessions. The present book, as its nomenclature indicates, is a collection of my Sectional Presidential Addresses, delivered in Veda (Pune 1993). South East Asian Studies (Rohtaka, 1994), Technical Sciences and Fine Arts (Calcutta, 1996). Manuscriptology (Baroda, 1998), Philosophy and Religion (Chennai, 2000), and Veda (Puri, 2002) Sections. Although some of the Addresses were published in proceedings and Transactions of the AIOC, I thought it would be more useful for scholars if all the addresses are published together in a book-form. These addresses contain exhaustive informations about (i) the senior scholars and their works in respective fields, (ii) the activities of the various Research Institutes and Academic Bodies regarding important collaborative and individual Research Projects undertaken by them, (iii) research publications, in form of books and papers contributed by the scholars, published by Research Institutes in their Research Journals and that by private publishing Agencies, (iv) the conditions both congenial and uncongenial about the progress of various branches of Studies and Pesearch in the fields including my personal suggestions for the enhancement of Academic standard and the successful accomplishment of the lingering Research projects undertaken since long time, and also how to popularise the Indological studies.
