About the Author

Madhu Khare nom de plume 'Maadhuji' was born, brought up and educated in Delhi. After doing her Post Graduation, her interest in Vaastu Shastra started as a hobby and soon became a passion.

Her husband's service in the Army took her to different places, cutting across State barriers. She keenly observed and analyzed not only the setting and location of her own house, but those of many others in different towns. With the passage of time, her hobby became her profession. Intensive study of various books on the subject, coupled with practical experience made her aufait on Vaastu. The present book is a result of her Vaastu consultations spanning over two decades. Her articles and features have been published in various dailies.

Preface

Man's quest for knowledge has led him to explore the depths of oceans and the voids of space. The knowledge explosion has brought about a sea change in man's attitude towards life. With the advent of education and propagation of knowledge through the print and electronic media, there has been an all-round increase in the awareness on Vaastu Shastra.

In the absence of any formal course in this field, people have to rely on the books available on Vaastu. Some of these are took sketchy and superficial to satiate the mind of the inquisitive reader, while others are voluminous treatises which the average reader has neither the time to read, nor the patience to comprehend. It has become an enigma for the common man who is at his wits end to comprehend the nuances of Vaastu as one more superstition.

The phenomenal increase in population during the last century has led to acute shortage of living space. In an attempt to provide maximum facilities in the minimum space, people overlooked the principles of Vaastu enshrined in the scriptures. All kinds of structures-circular, triangular, hexagonal, octagonal began to be constructed to attract the prospective inmates. Out of sheer ignorance or disbelief, people pay scant attention to the norms of Vaastu while building a house, only to realize the significance of this aspect when they are faced with tensions, worries, ailments, losses and enmity.

There is a misconception that people are wary of meeting a Vaastu consultant for fear that he may ask them to turn the whole house topsy-turvy. In fact structural changes are well neigh impossible in the apartment culture of today. A sound study of Vaastu Shastra coupled with logical interpretation brings out remedial measures involving hardly any structural changes. These take into account the holistic picture which emerges after considering several factors like internal setting of rooms, orientation of fitments/furniture, parking of vehicles, water points, staircase, doors, windows etc.

Man's life is based on the result of his karmas. Of the different forces affecting the life of a person, Vaastu Shastra is important one. If the stars of a person are very favourable, the ill-effects of the violation of the principles of Vaastu are not felt to that extent. But if the stars are not favourable, they are felt prominently. Vaastu provides an umbrella on a rainy day. If we have to tread a path of thorns we would do well to wear shoes.

I have compiled these frequently asked questions (FAQ's) based on my interaction with a varied cross section of people during the last two decades. I owe a lot to these keen observers, who have led me to explore more and more into this Edifice science. Now, I can confidently predict the nature of problems faced by the occupants by observing their premises in detail. My faith in the science of Vaastu has been reiterated, when my predictions have been corroborated by the occupants. If people have benefited from my advice, the credit does not go to me, but to the principles of Vaastu Shastra which have stood the test of time, through the ages.

This book will provide a much needed ready-reckoner to builders, architects, house-makers and the common man who wants to know all about Vaastu. I would be delighted to receive views and suggestions for improvement of the book from discerning readers.
