Dr. Harimohon Choudhury, born on 20th December, 1932 at Village Sukchari, Chittagong. East Bengal, studied Homoeopathy in the East Pakistan Homoeopathic Medical College (Now called Dr. Zakir Hussain Homoeopathic Medi- cal College), further enriched his knowledge and experience in Homoeopathy under the direct supervision of the great and celebrated physicians and authors like Dr. Khagendra Das Choudhury and Dr. Chandra Kumar Khastagir of Chit- tagong. Bangladesh.

He started his practice long thirty two years back and since then his reputation as a brilliant and successful doyen of Homoeopathy has spread in Bangladesh as well as in India. He is now practising in Calcutta and is considered one of the top most physicians in the pure Hahnemannian line. He is the founder of "Homoeopathy International of 115E, Lenin Sarani, Calcutta-700 013", the greatest home of 50 Millesimal Potencies commanding high prestige and reputa- tion in the world of Homoeopathy.

Dr. Choudhury, a Professor of the Organon of Medicine in the Chittagong Homoeopathic Medical College since 1966 to 1968, has translated the Organon of Medicine (sixth edition) in Bengali which has been prescribed as a text-book in the Homoeopathic Institutions by the Bangladesh Ho-moeopathic Board. Author of many Homoeopathic books and literatures, he established himself as a great personality and earned vast popularity among the physicians, teachers and students alike, not to speak of the teaming millions who throughout the decades, have been amazingly cured of the maladies thought incurable. His scholarly contributions substantially enriched the Homoeopathic journals.

Within the framework of Homoeopathic philosophy and practice, he developed an original scientific approach to different aspects of the science. His research and experi- ments on 50 Millesimal Scale of Potency, the hidden treas- ure of the Organon (sixth edition), have opened up new vistas of Homoeopathic treatment. At present a good num- ber of doctors uses 50 Millesimal Scale of Potency. His books on this subject in Bengali and English have earned Inter- national reputation as a beacon light of Hahnemann's 50 Millesimal Potency in the world, more particularly, in this sub-continent.

Dr. Choudhury advocates realistic and materialistic outlook in Homoeopathy as against idealistic views hitherto prevalent. He has written Homoeopathy in the Light of Dialectical Materialism an extremely potent scientific docu- ment which cuts across the shallow formulations of Pseudo- scientists who callously evade the truth by calling it either an empirical or spiritual science. His stand against Pseudo- homoeopathy, mixtures and permutations and combina- tions of all sorts is categorical and uncompromising. He is up in arms in an unrelenting crusade against Pseudo- homoeopathy in Ajker Homeo Pragati of which he is the Chief Editor and also in Homeo-Samiksha (Chief Advisor). His conviction and inspired commitment to the struggle of scientific Homoeopathy readily leads him to assume the captaincy of Homoeopathy in any corner of the world. This impels Dr. Harimohon to patronize the Hindi Homoeopathic Quarterly The Hahnemann Ke Raste, the language he can neither read nor write.

I have the great pleasure to state that this book has not only received a good response from the Homoeopathic pro- fession but also has generated a revolution in the Ho- moeopathic world. Innumerable blessings, good-wishes. congratulations, etc., of my learned colleagues from nook and corner of many countries have been showering upon me and in fact those have overwhelmed me. Some of their presentations are being added as "Comments on the Second Edition", at the last part of this edition. Remaining ones could not be published due to short age of space. I heartily express my gratitude to all.

Before publication of this third edition all the chapters have been critically studied and revised in the light of my present practical experimentation. One new sub-chapter has been included regarding administration of medicine on descending scales. So I believe that this edition will be far more informative and helpful to the profession. We should write 'dilution' in lieu of 'potency' which is more scientific. I could not correct it everywhere for which I am very sorry.

Hearty congratulations to Prof. Tapan Chakraborty and Dr. Biswanath Das for their painstaking assistance in revis- ing the book. Best wishes to Dr. Nilratan Pal for his co- operation. Once more I appeal to my learned readers to go through the book critically and let me inform about any wrong of mine, so that it will be further improved in its next edition.

I am much pleased to introduce this book 50 Millesimal Potency in Theory and Practice to the English speaking world. I felt the urgent necessity of an English version of this very valuable book first published in Bengali in 1973.

I feel that my views about this book, will be best ex- pressed if I reprint here the review made in the Hahneman- nian Gleanings of April, 1978 (Vol. XLV/4/190).

.... Now, regarding the book on the 50 Millesimal Scale of Potency we all know how the 6th edition of the Organon was salvaged for the posterity by the noble Homoeopathic histo- rian Dr. Haehl and immediately presented to the English knowing world by the enterprising Homoeopathic author- cum-publisher Dr. William Boericke, as early as 1921. But very unfortunately, this highly beneficient work was re- maining in dark, cold storage, until Dr. Charles Pahud of France and Dr. Pierre Schmidt of Geneva brought out this lost contribution of Hahnemann to limelight in the first half of the fifties of this century. Even then, it was remaining a personal effort until, Hahnemann Publishing Co. ventured to take up this work on a manufacturing scale, preparing various medicines in the latest 50 Millesimal Scale of Poten- cles, in 1957, as the pioneer in this work on world scale. Just after this, two persons in East Pakistan (now Bangladesh) took up this task and started preparing potencies as per the directions of the 6th Edition, and experimenting with them in the clinical field. They were Dr. Chandi Pada Chakraborty and Dr. Harimohon Choudhury. The latter soon established a firm for manufacturing drugs with this scale of potencies, on the name of Cosmopolitan Homoeo Stores, in collabora- tion with a number of confreres of northern and eastern region of East Pakistan. The founder had later on to migrate to India for various reasons, the main being an utter break- down of health. (He has since established a new firm for the same purpose, in India, named Homoeopathy International, 115E, Lenin Sarani, Calcutta-13).

The senior pioneer, Dr. Chandi Pada Chakravorty, in col- laboration with the present author first published a book on this subject, under the title of Sahasratamiker Prayog Vijnan in 1964, which sold out very rapidly. So the 2nd enlarged Edition was published in 1966.

Later on, the senior co-author desiring to write and enlarge the book independently, Dr. Choudhury decided to publish this book separately, under the present title, elimi- nating the part written by Dr. Chakravorty and enlarging and improving the part written by himself.

The sole aim of all physicians is to restore the sick hu man race to health. To carry out this noble and salutary responsibility we must possess all requisite qualifications. Our foremost duty is to make ourselves competent as rational physicians and preservers of health. In this regard our great teacher Hahnemann says, "When we have to do with an art whose end is the saving of human life any neglect to make ourselves master of it becomes a crime."

We all know that the Organon, Sixth Edition, is the latest scientific contribution of Dr. Hahnemann written on the basis of his life-long research and experimentation. In comparison with the Organon, Fifth Edition, the Sixth Edition contains a total number of wholly new aphorisms and footnotes are about 60, partly additions are about 49, partly corrections are about 27. About 40 aphorisms, foot- notes and their parts of the Fifth Edition have become obsolete. In this last Edition of the Organon revolutionary additions and alternations have been made specially in preparation and administration of medicines and observa- tion of patients after medication. Therefore, the Organon, Fifth Edition, has naturally become obsolete after the pub- lication of the Sixth as happened with the Fourth Edition after the Fifth and so on.

There should be no doubt about the fact that the Ho- moeopathic system of medicine has improved much in the Sixth Edition of the Organon. Dr. Hahnemann states about the Organon, Fifth Edition, "...our homoeopathic system has advanced so near to perfection," but about the Sixth he says, "I have now after eighteen months of work, finished the Sixth Edition of my Organon, the most nearly perfect of all." Dr. W. Boericke, translator of the Organon, Sixth Edition, also states, "The book as now presented is Hahnemann's last work concerning the principles advanced by him in the first and subsequent Editions, illuminated and enlarged by his vast experience in the latter part of his medical career in the treatment of both acute and chronic diseases. Historically, the book in its Sixth Edition is of the greatest interest and importance, completing as it does the marvellous array of Hahnemann's philosophic insight into the practice of medi- cine." So we can conclude with our humble opinion that: As Homoeopathy is a revolution in the field of Medicine, so is the Organon, Sixth Edition in the field of Homoeopathy.

'Succussed dilutions' or potencies according to this last Edition of the Organon belong to 50 Millesimal Scale which Hahnemann termed as "new, altered but perfected method," "new dynamization method," etc.

Many of our homoeopathic physicians cannot follow the Sixth Edition of the Organon or its new dynamization method as yet due to various reasons. But on the other hand some of our learned friends who are putting this new method into practice are not strictly following the directives of the Or- ganon, as regards whom Hahnemann states, "If it is not done with exactness, let no one boast to have imitated me nor expect a good result."
