This book of 250 Titbits forms my collection over the past several decades of hearing and reading. I am sure readers will appreciate the variety as well as the- individual contents.
In the proper formatting of the items in the book I had yeoman help from Sri Narayanan. I am also thankful for the nice cover designed by Kartik Chandrasekhar, my grandson.
I am indebted to Indic Academy for sponsoring the publication of this work. My affectionate acknowledgements and appreciation are due to Dr. Kameswari and Dr. Mohan Ramanan for kindly forewords for the book.
I feel absolutely honoured to have been asked by Professor Krishnamurthy to write this Foreword to this collection of 250 titbits of Vedantic wisdom. I have known the Professor for well-nigh 50 years and over the years grown to admire and revere him for his energy, learning and wisdom. Nothing Professor Krishnamurthy does is half-hearted because he brings his whole being to the task. In his long career he has written many books on Vedanta with an Advaitic emphasis. He had the benefit of his father's tutelege. Sri Viswanatha Sastrigal was a deep and profound Vedantic who not only wrote some learned works but was also a realized soul. This association has been absolutely crucial to Professor Krishnamurthy's development as an expositor of Vedanta. His earlier books have been educative and explanatory and he has kept the young reader steadily in mind. But his writing have also, like his monumental edition of the Bhagava Gita, with its notes, translations and commentary been aimed at the mature scholar, the seeker and the experts. Just as an affectionate mother who has cooked a feast, cooks expansively, and makes sure that some choice portion of the food is saved for the children, so also Professor Krishnamurthy after he has written his tomes, saves up these little titbits which he has not used, to delight the general reader. These are bits and pieces from his writing, his lecturing and his memory of what he has heard. Professor Krishnamurthy gives us little nuggets of wisdom which as a dedicated teacher he feels compelled to share with us.
