Book Description
About the Book

'Mail' should bring a beautiful Pert-CPM graph starting with a letter pad, an envelope, a postage stamp and work itself to the whole system of the transmission of this written message to the designated person addressed. The transmission is on the principles of "The Straight Line"-shortest feasible route - the direct path and SAL (Surface Air Lifting). From a colourful past of carriage by every means of vehicular transhipment adopted, it works itself to the wonders now of E-mail by electronic media or "Hybrid Mail" via satellite.

All students of literature study personality and character aspects of the various persons in the theatre play, who create by Audio-Visual technique of the art of acting, the story of the play. So, in the drama of written communication is the gummed character of the postage stamp or the Franking impression. The author in this book has brought out this aspect viz. do not take the postage stamps for granted - there is great depth of knowledge in its being for the Observing Eyes. That is to say, the milestone of Truth is standing visible right in front of your eyes for you to see and study its refined details to its Core knowledge of many aspects touching all the encompassed fields in the word `Science.'

It gives me great pleasure to congratulate the author on his generosity in sharing his vast wisdom on the subject of Philately in the Indian context with the readers in this book.

Foreword

In the progressive march foreward of the people who reside in the Indian peninsular Sub-Continent, the science of evidence has shown many accomplishments which are now an integral part of the culture of the Indian Civilisation. In the field of scientific communication and importance of information, the role of postage stamps cannot be denied.

When you speak concisely it is said, only one word should describe aptly a whole process or system of applied science of an idea and the Philosophy on which it is raised. Such a work is the word 'Mail'. It should bring a beautiful Pert-CPM graph starting with a letter pad, an envelope, a postage stamp and work itself to the whole system of the transmission of this written message to the designated person addressed.

In this communication method is the franchise payment system of the Postage Stamp and Electronic Franking-just as in a theatre play the lead actor or actress are prominent, so in written communication arena is the Postage Stamp. That is to say, the milestone of Truth is standing visible right in front of your eyes for you to see and study its refined details to its Core knowledge of many aspects touching all the encompassed fields in the word 'Science.'

It gives me great pleasure to congratulate the author on his generosity in sharing his vast wisdom on the subject of Philately in the Indian context with the readers in this book. I also would like to record the gratitude of Department of Posts, Ministry of Communications, Government of India in being given the opportunity to contribute in this authoritative book by the author. I on behalf of Department of Posts express this gratitude. As suppliers of philatelic materials, it is joyful to point out that the information provided in this book covers the history of the evidence of the importance of Postage Stamp upto the end of the 20th Century and its step forward into the New Millennium with the 21st Century.

I would like the reader to note that in the year 2001 AD when this book is being published, it is the year also when the Indian salutes the Father of the Nation, Mahatma Gandhi as the 'Apostle of Peace' and the 'Man of the Millennium' and this will be recorded for posterity in the History recordings of the postage stamps which will be released on his birthday. With this memory comes also the various personalities who were his contemporaries associated with him as Jawaharlal Nehru and Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel to whom we of new India are indebted. So also crowd in memories of the various ideals these greatments floated, which we are to fulfil such as 'Ecological Awarness', 'Environmental Alertness', 'Nationalism of a Patriot' and so on. This book brings all this into the forefront again.
