Foreword

It feels skyward job for me write a foreword for a book that seems to be historical analysis of all the books of Homoeopathy which have been an epitome of dynamic therapeutic Homoeopathy. Most of the academicians and researchers would agree with me that this is the most perfect time to engineer such a novel innovative idea in form of a book which shall be cherished by all. The author has rationally solved the circle of concern which arises in the mind of readers when they think of utilizing a book for their reference purpose in any of the literary pursuit. The compendium sheds appreciable light on the philosophy of books highlighting why a particular is important and what makes it unique or different from others. The book has been written in simple english, without any heavy technical jargons with an aim to provide key technical information regarding all the 100 books. The readers will find the content simple, lucid and every piece of information required to review a book at a single place in a single glance. The post-graduate and Ph. D scholars will find this book very useful inwriting their thesis/dissertations and getting their research work published as per the prescribed guidelines.

The author has conscientiously and comprehensively covered a mammoth task of compiling authentic information regarding 100 fundamental books of Homoeopathy, such an initiative is not only compelling but commendable also.

Preface

Sometime back while interacting with the young homoeopaths, I was amazed to find that most of them were not aware of the old treasures of Homoeopathic literary armamentarium. My initial reaction was that this must be a singular exceptional case. Then onwards, I made it a point to discuss about the books the present generation are reading, what they are aware about, what they possess or are planning to purchase. This continued wherever and whenever I went and got an opportunity to interact. The outcome was not frustration but a sense of failure on my part, as a teacher, as an academician.

My teachers and seniors were in the habit of giving references of various books and journals during classes and discussions (the famous 'adda' sessions of Bengal). We used to peruse those books in the Book Stall (we can never forget the ever helpful Kartick da) situated in our college premises (The Calcutta Homoeopathic Medical College & Hospital) and in the library. Even when we were not able to find many books, we were atleast aware about them and kept on searching for them in different book stalls of used and rare books at College Street, of Kolkata (probably the biggest market of second hand and rare books). We were instructed to develop a habit of reading books and journals and to go on reading them. We were taught to read the works of Master and other stalwarts in their own words from their own books and writings, rather than reading them from summaries based on their original books. Time has changed. Most of the books which were rare once are now easily available online. But somewhere as a teacher, I must have failed in making my students aware, interested and readers of such books.
