This book seeks to encourage more people to explore UNESCO,s World Heritage sites in the Kathmandu Valley such as the Durbar Squares in front of medieval royal palaces, the Bodhnath and Swayambhu stupas and Pashupatinath and Changunarayan temples. These sites are repositories of art and architecture in pagoda and shikhara styles. The Hindu temples and Buddhist stupas from an integral part of the rich cultural heritage of Nepal. But these sites are as much a part of the present as of the past. People make pilgrimages to, and celebrate festivals, at these sites and have cultivated such institutions as the 'living goddess' all of which have combined to bestow the title of a 'living museum' on the Kathmandu Valley.
