Indian children's book illustrator Jagdish Joshi. Later, he worked for the Hindustan Times and Children's Book Trust after completing his fine arts degree at the Indian College of Arts and Draftsmanship in Dum Dum, Kolkata. Through the 1990s, he continued to be "one of the most sought-after" illustrators in Indian children's literature. He also illustrated several books for the National Book Trust.
He was a candidate for the Hans Christian Andersen Award in 1998, also referred to as the "Nobel Prize for Children's Literature" and granted by the International Board on Books for Young People (IBBY) every two years in honor of a "lasting contribution to children's literature."
