Note the delicate lines and proportions with which the form and figure of Devi Lakshmi have been executed. Long, curvaceous limbs and the hips jutting gently sideways. The sharp recesses of the waist and the fecund curves above. Supple arms, those skilfully distinguished digits. A fine neck and the compassionate features of a face brimming with maternal warmth. Each aspect of the Devi composition has been executed with great skill, such that a lifelike quality pervades the same.
An interestingly monotone composition, this work of art is in keeping with the traditional pattachitra style of Orissa. The signature ivory cream colour of the tussar silk canvas has been superimposed with finely executed black lines. There is a world of nuance to the Devi chhavi (image) such as the embroidery on Her attire, the workmanship of Her crown, and the creases in the petals of all the lotuses in the chitra (painting).
