This little brass portable bell is also known as Ghanti. It is commonly observed at temples and personal worship spaces when the Gods and Goddesses are offered aarti. The ghanti itself is considered a sacred object and is used as part of Hindu rituals. Each component of the intricately constructed handbell is thought to represent a different deity. Thus, Sarasvati, the Goddess of Wisdom, is represented by its tongue or clapper, Brahma by its face, Rudra by its belly, and Vasuki by its stem, while the entire body of the bell represents the deity of time. The added image of a bull on the top of the bell represents Lord Shiva's blessings on the ritual object.
