The traditional iconography of the Gaja Villaku or Elephant Lamp category is followed by this brass lamp. The lamp is mounted on the back of an elephant that appears to be walking. The elephant in these lights represents expansion and regal grandeur. When aided by a lamp (one wick), it becomes a channel for bringing riches and prosperity through the almighty's blessings, which may be achieved by providing the warmth of the light from the wick. These lamps are said to be built for royal families with their status in mind. They were later used by powerful families.
