The pretty maiden, seen in profile, is not only beautiful but also religious in nature. Head bent at a slight angle, she offers water to the sacred tulsi plant. There is reverence in her gaze and action. Simplicity reflects in her attire and jewellery. In her hands she holds a pot with reverence, tilted for a smooth flow. The object of her veneration is the tulsi plant, which the Hindus hold in high regard as it is associated with Lord Vishnu, and the leaves are offered to the Lord in daily worship.
The peacocks form part of the foreground as they peck at the grains scattered for them. The right side of the background consists of heavy drapery and the left side has scenic beauty. The vegetation is dense but not enough to obscure the rising sun. A small temple can be partially seen. A calm water body with a pair of swans completes the picturesque scene. A tough competition takes place between the beauty of nature and the woman!
