Sri Guru Nanak Dev Ji's Japuji has been transliterated and translated in many languages over the years. Khan Bahadur Khwaja Dil Mohammed's Urdu translation of this Holy Scripture (along with Sukhmani) is still fresh in my memory. The other scholars of repute have also rendered it in various languages. Still the Bani, having been terse, pithy and concise in certain Pauris (Stanzas), tests the capability of the human mind to convey the meaning with absolute certainty.
Ranjodh Singh has been nurtured in Sikh faith since his childhood. The Japuji has become an inalienable part of his memory. While on an air travel from India to U.S.A. he had the intuition to translate the Japuji in English in such a diction as can be comprehended by the common people. On the basis of his memory, he started the work on his flight without a second thought. Later, the translation in Punjabi & Hindi was also considered necessary in view of the people who are not fully conversant with English language. Hence this trilingual rendering.
Ranjodh Singh was born on 3 June, 1965 in Ludhiana, India and had his schooling at Mussoorie and later in Ludhiana. In due course of time, he received his degree in art, along with Diploma in Mechanical Engineering. He is currently involved in multifaceted activities, such as Managing Director of GST Group, President of Ramgarhia Educational Council (Ludhiana), Patron of Sankara Eye Hospital, Ludhiana and Ludhiana Pedallers Club (Regd.). His keen interest in photography and visual arts has enabled him to produce his earlier works 'Desk book of Vision and Wisdom', Japuji-Prayer of the soul, Nankana Sahib & Sikh Shrines in Pakistan, Hemkunt Sahib-A Mystic Pilgirimage, Sachkhand Sri Harimandir Sahib , wherein the visual merge with philosophical thoughts & text in these books.
Now transliteration and translation of Japuji Sahib is bound to earn him kudos for its unique presentation. It is noteworthy that text of Japuji Sahib has never been presented in such form of a multilingual and artistic book.
